How to protect timber window frames from Rot?

The most likely place to find rotten timber around the home are your timber window frames, as they are exposed to the elements on a daily basis. In most cases, it goes under a homeowner’s radar until it’s too late.

What Causes Timber Rot.

The main cause Timber decay/ dry rot is moisture, it allows the breeding of fungus and mould. This accuser typically due to the paint system starting to break down by cracking or peeling. This allows moisture to get into the timber when it rains thus allowing the onset of timber decay.  Other factors of dry rot are UV and Insect attacks.

How To Prevent My windows From Rotting?

We recommend No Rot Gel. Water based brush on wood timber preservative to help stop the spread of decay, mildew or insect attack.  This product is simple to use, apply No-Rot Gel to the timber surface using a brush, roller or spray gun. If the timber is very dry, it is best to dampen the timber with water to allow better penetration of No-Rot Gel.

No Rot Gel is formulated to penetrate by diffusion into the timber, while still allowing the surface to be painted over. No-Rot Gel can also be used to kill surface mould, algae or fungi.

No Rot Gel can be painted over with either oil or water-based paints, primers and undercoats. If your windows are facing the sun, it is advisable to choose a product with more pigment to protect the timber from UV rays.
