Aussie Clear is an exterior oil and timber finish designed for hardwood decks. It penetrates the timber surface to stabilise the wood, repel moisture and inhibit mould growth — addressing the main causes of cracking and splitting in Australian conditions.
Timber suitability
Formulated for medium to dark hardwoods. It enhances the natural grain and warm tones of species such as Spotted Gum, Ironbark, Jarrah and similar dense timbers.
Finish
Natural to amber-enhancing. The oil deepens the existing colour of the timber rather than adding a heavy tint.
Climate considerations
Suitable across Australian climates — from the dry heat of inland regions to the humid coastal zones. The moisture-repelling formulation is particularly useful in areas with high rainfall or coastal salt air.
Coverage and preparation
Apply to clean, dry timber. Sand back any rough or weathered surfaces before application. Coverage will vary with timber porosity and condition — more porous or weathered timber will absorb more product. Check the product label for current coverage rates.
Maintenance timing

Aussie Clear Light
Aussie Clear Light shares the same protective formulation as Aussie Clear but is specially tinted for mid to light-toned timbers. Using the standard Aussie Clear on pale species can result in an overly amber or orange appearance — Aussie Clear Light is designed to avoid that.
Timber suitability
Suited to lighter-coloured species including Merbau, Cypress Pine, Silvertop Ash and Blackbutt. If your deck is one of these species, Aussie Clear Light is the more appropriate choice over the standard formula.
Finish
A lighter, more neutral tint that complements pale timber tones without darkening them significantly.
Climate considerations
Same broad climate suitability as Aussie Clear — effective in both dry and humid Australian conditions.
Coverage and preparation

Radial Sealer
Radial Sealer is a different product category from the Aussie Clear range. It is an unpigmented, oil-based clear sealer with a mouldicide — designed for situations where you want short-term water repellency and mould resistance while allowing the timber to weather naturally to a silver-grey over time.
Timber suitability
Well suited to new or freshly installed timber where you want to protect the wood during its initial weathering period without locking in a colour. Also appropriate where a natural grey patina is the desired long-term aesthetic.
Finish
Clear and unpigmented. The timber will gradually weather to silver-grey beneath the sealer — this is by design, not a product failure.
Climate considerations
The mouldicide makes it a practical choice in humid or shaded areas where mould and mildew are a recurring problem. The shorter reapplication cycle (up to 6 months) means it suits situations where regular maintenance is feasible.

Apply to clean, dry timber. As with any sealer, surface preparation directly affects how well the product penetrates and performs. Check the product label for current coverage rates.

How to Choose
The decision comes down to three questions:
- What timber species is your deck? Dark or medium hardwoods → Aussie Clear. Light-toned species (Merbau, Blackbutt, Cypress Pine, Silvertop Ash) → Aussie Clear Light. New timber where grey weathering is acceptable → Radial Sealer.
- What finish do you want? Enhanced natural colour → Aussie Clear or Aussie Clear Light. Clear with natural greying → Radial Sealer.
- How often can you maintain it? Annual maintenance → Aussie Clear or Aussie Clear Light. Up to every 6 months → Radial Sealer.
